What's up everyone? :) For today's post I wanted to share another piece from the creative writing class I took a couple years ago. This is a short-story, a fractured fairy tale, to be exact. I had a blast writing it, and I hope you enjoy reading it, and find it as funny as I do.
So, it turns out I have to just give the link (found below) to my story, otherwise the different fonts won't show up. This is important, as you'll understand if you read the story. :)

Week in Review #1
Hi everyone! Today's post is going to be a review of all the stuff I've done this week.
*I started this blog on Saturday. It was kind of an impulse thing, but so far I've been able to stick with it.
*On Sunday, I watched an entire 69 minute movie without doing anything else. I just layed on my bed with a little dvd player, and ignored everything else. That might not seem interesting, but I am almost always doing something else when I watch a movie or a tv show. I'm playing my phone, working on my computer, coloring, etc. It felt nice to just lay there, feeling sort of suspended in time. I might try that again this coming Sunday. The movie was an old favorite: Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights.
*On Monday we went skating. I didn't stay as long as my siblings, I sprained my ankle slightly last Tuesday, and after about an hour of skating I was done.
*I also figured out my posting schedule a little more specifically. Starting next week, on Mondays I'm going to share some piece I've already written, like I did this week. On Wednesdays, I'm going to write something new. It might be about a specific topic, or creative writing, but it'll be new. And on Fridays I'm going to write weekly reviews.
*Thursday we went swimming at the YMCA. The outdoor pool was closed, but we had the indoor pool almost totally to our selves. That was pretty great. We went by Chick-fil-a after for lunch.
*Friday, today, we went up to the Carolina Raptor Center. That was pretty neat. I loved that they had the names of the birds on every cage. I bought a soft baby owl to add to my collection of stuffed animals. His name is Scamper, and he's white with grey spots.
*I've also been studying for the SAT this week. I have to take it not this weekend but next.
That's it for today. See you next week!

Waiting for summer
So today is my first official day on summer break. So far I've not done anything particularly summery, but I've got plenty of time for that. Right now I'm dying to go swimming, even though I'm sure the water would be really cold.
Being in a summery mood, I thought I'd share a piece I wrote almost two years ago for a creative writing class. The assignment wad to write a descriptive piece about a memory we had. It could be a poem or not, but we had to detail sounds, smells, sights, tastes, and textures. I wrote about being at the beach on the fourth of July. Enjoy!

July 4th at the beach for the Courtneys by Kathryne Courtney 9/15/14
I feel damp sand on my legs when I sit down. A sister climbs on to my lap and lays her sweaty head on my shoulder. I can taste my chapstick as it melts off my lips, along with the constant taste of sand. In the distance I can hear my mom chewing out the stranger for almost shooting Charles with an illegal firework. I wonder briefly if this will be the year she finally calls the cops on someone. My thoughts are interrupted by Rachel beginning to whine about one thing or another. I resist smacking her or shouting at her shut up and try to focus on the fireworks far away above the pier. The smell of smoke becomes strong again, and I don’t even try to locate the source this time. There are too many people here to bother with moving away from it, anyway. It’s late and we’re exhausted when we get up to make the trek back to the house. I can smell the ever present smell of sunscreen still on me, but I’m too tired to care. I don’t know that I’ll ever feel clean again. Happy 4th of July to us.
*Disclaimer: This is supposed to be funny. I love my family, and I wouldn't trade those late, tiring nights for anything. :) I just needed a sensory filled memory that I felt like I could get a good amount written about.

Welcome to In the Middle of Starting Over
This is my first blog post on this blog, but definitively not my first attempt at blogging. When I was twelve, I had a blog using a fake name and fake situations, and when I was fourteen/fifteen I kept a fairly steady blog for a few months or so. I'm not very good at posting consistently, but I'm going to try hard this summer to post once or twice a week. I have a couple things planned to write about, and I'd love to hear suggestions from anyone reading this for more things to write about. Today I'm going to just do a q&a style introduction of me and my blog.
Q) What's your name?
A) Kathryne. (it *might* already say that somewhere on the page, but I like to cover the bases ;)
Q) How old are you?
A) Sixteen.
Q) What grade are you in, and what kind of school do you go to?
A) I am a rising senior in highschool, and I'm homeschooled.
Q) What does your family look like?
A) It's me, my mom, my dad, my brother (15), my sister (12), my other sister (10), our dog, our cat, and my two fish.
Q) Where do you live?
A) United States, South Carolina.
Q) What kind of music do you like?
A) I like a little of everything. Right now I'm obsessed with Kelsea Ballerini's album The First Time, but honestly, there's no rhyme or reason to what music I like.
Q) Favorite Tv shows?
A) Once Upon a Time, Switched at Birth, and Gilmore Girls.
Q) Favorite Youtubers?
A) Jenna Marbles, Julien Somilita, Psycho Soprano, Rachel Ballinger, iiSuperwomanii, Blimey Cow, and Jordan Taylor.
Q) What's the blog going to be about?
A) Lots of things. Some of it will be journal style, talking about the stuff I did this summer. Some of it might be stories or poems I've written, and some might be my thoughts on a specific issue. Right now I'm less concerned with what I write, just that I'm writing something.
Q) When are you going to post?
A) My goal is to post every Monday and Friday, with maybe an extra post on the occasional Wednesday.
Q) What does the title of your blog mean?
A) I used lyrics from my favorite Sabrina Carpenter song. It means when you're at the place in life when you're working towards a change, but you're in the middle of it all, and it all seems like a mess. But it's ok, you're just in the middle of starting over, and it'll work itself out in the end.
That's it for today. If you have anymore questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
